If you thought Nano Banana was a new cryptocurrency, a Mario Kart item, or a Minions catchphrase, you’re not too far off… but nope, it’s not.

It’s Google’s brand-new artificial intelligence for generating pro-style images. And even though the name sounds like a #VidaDigital marketing team inside joke, the tool is no joke at all.

What Is Nano Banana (aka Gemini 2.5 Flash Image)?

It’s an AI that lives inside Gemini (Google’s AI app, formerly known as Bard) and it’s designed to create and edit images using plain text, like:

“Give me a robot with sunglasses drinking coffee in a steampunk office.”

And boom—you’ve got it.

But what sets it apart isn’t just the quality. It’s the ability to maintain the same style, character, or object across multiple images.

Ever had an AI character suddenly swap faces or grow extra fingers? Well, Nano Banana basically said: “Not anymore.”

How Is It Different From Midjourney or DALL·E?

If you’re into AI image generation, you know prompting isn’t exactly easy (people literally study this stuff).

Nano Banana makes it simple. Instead of treating prompts like cryptic hieroglyphics, this AI actually understands context.

So if you create a character and later ask for them on a beach, in an office, or blasting off to Mars—they’ll stay the same character, same style, just in a new setting.

In practice, that means you can:

  • Build consistent visual campaigns (no Photoshop sorcery needed)

  • Design characters for comics or branded content

  • Create endless product shots from different angles

  • Or just… make your teammate a studio-quality birthday card

Where Can You Use It and How Much Does It Cost?

You can use it for free inside the Gemini app (web or mobile).

Of course, with some limits per session (because, like me, Google also needs to nap sometimes).

If you’ve got Gemini Advanced or Workspace, you get more tokens to play with. And if you want to integrate it into your own app or workflow, it’s available via Google AI Studio and Vertex AI at around $0.039 per image.

And What Would We Use It For at We Build It?

Well, we already used it for this article’s image! Plies, we’re brainstorming things like:

  • Illustrations for presentations and prototypes

  • High-quality (well, kind of) memes for next July

  • Visual assets for automated campaigns

  • And above all: quick, stylish content—without depending 100% on the designer who’s on vacation

Nano Banana might sound like a joke, but it’s not playing around

Google has officially stepped into the AI image generation arena. And with Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (yep, Nano Banana isn’t the official name), it’s aiming straight for DALL·E’s throne.

If you work in content, design, or marketing, this could be your new visual best friend.

And if the name keeps you from trying it… well, we get it. But you’re missing out.

Want to know how to integrate this and other AI tools to automate your content and scale your creativity? At We Build It, we help you avoid doing everything manually.
