Singapore and facial verification take a step forward to implement it as an identification method that will serve as a substitute for passport or identification.

Worldwide facial recognition and verification are already moving among us, especially as a security method for smartphones. Many can already pay using face recognition and verification from smartphones and much more. However, no country had dared to use it at the level of government use, as Singapore has done.

The Asian country, Singapore, launches facial verification to promote the digital economy in that country. This development is already carried out together with the British company iProov. In this sense, the company explains that facial verification and facial recognition are two different terms. In the first case, required the consent of the citizen, while in the second there is no consent, the face is scanned and the person is identified using comparison with other unknown faces.

Therefore, Singapore seeks to automate processes and also seeks the safety of the citizens. It’s also a way to provide information on whether that person is really in the place where they say they are and also avoid fraud or identity theft.

Likewise, they have not given much detail about it. Also, it said that only requirements must be met and there will be no further prohibition or restriction. It is worth noting that facial verification will only be done with the knowledge and acceptance of the person or citizen.

Some are not convinced of the long-term functionality of face verification or its save security. What we do know about Singapore and facial verification is that this topic goes beyond what we can barely know.
